The Haan lab uses various electrochemical methods to: study fundamental behavior of metal catalyst surfaces and develop new catalysts for electrochemical oxidation of renewable fuels.

Undergraduate students begin research in their 3rd year and continue until graduation. Graduate students also work in our lab for their master’s thesis projects.

The first semester of research entails shadowing students, getting trained on techniques, and attending group meetings. Once trained, students perform collaborative work in the lab.

Research gives an opportunity to work on practical applications of the theory taught in the classroom and gain experience with hands on activities. It is great preparation for graduate or professional school applications and good work experience for industry jobs.
